Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen Friday night defeated Chinese Fu Haifeng and Hong Wei 21-11, 21-18. The Danes are now facing 8th seed Koreans in Saturday’s semi final.

Fu Haifeng/Hong Wei is a new Chinese double constellation. Despite their new partnership the two tall and powerful Chinese players have been playing great badminton the past few days at Yonex Denmark Open. But in the end, they weren’t able to threaten the Danish double specialists, Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen.

The Danes won the first game surprisingly easy, and even though the second game turned out to be a bit closer, Boe/Carstensen were in control the whole match through and won it by 21-11/21-18.

“We played perfect today, we didn’t make any mistakes. We were well prepared and I’m really satisfied with our performance. This isn’t a pair you just defeat like that”, Mathias Boe said after the match.

The second seeded Danes are now facing Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong from Koream whop won their match against Malaysians Kien Keat Koo and Boon Heong Tan, 21-15/21-12.

“It’s a new pair, but we have played them several times when they were playing with other partners. I’m excited to see how they play together tomorrow”, Carsten Mogensen says.

First seed Setiawan/Ahsan in semi final despite problems
Top seed at this year’s tournament and defending world champions, Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan, also made it through to Saturday’s semi finals defeating Hirokatsu Hashimoto and Noriyasu Hirata from Japan, 18-21, 21-17, 21-13.

But it looked a bit more difficult than usually. The Japanese seemed unimpressed despite the fact that they were up against the world champions. Hashimoto/Hirata got the lead in first game and also managed to win it.

But from there Ahsan/Setiawan started showing why they are top seed and defending world champions. The Indonesians won the game 21-17 and in the final game, Ahsan/Setiawan were in complete control.

“Our first game was not good and our opponents played well. In the second we tried to attack, attack and attack and continued that until the end of the game,” a smiling Hendra Setiawan said after the match.
Ahsan/Setiawan are facing Japanese Hiroyuki Endo and Kenichi Hayakawa in their semi final Saturday.
