Yonex Denmark Open, day 3

Almost all the favourites are through to the quarter finals at Yonex Denmark Open 2013. Get the summary of today’s matches right here:

Men’s single
In men’s single all the favourites besides Japanese Kenichi Tago went through to the quarter finals. Lee Chong Wei, Jan Ø. Jørgensen and Du Pengyu all won their matches in two games.

Second seed Chen Long needed three games before he had defeated Rajiv Ouseph from England. After the match he said:
“It was a bit more difficult than I expected it to be. In the third game, I was just a little bit luckier than he was,” Chen Long says.
Women’s single

Last year’s runner up and number three seed, German Juliane Schenk, is out of Yonex Denmark Open. Schenk lost in three close games to Korean Bae Ju Yeon. The young Dane Line Kjærsfeldt also played her last match in the tournament. Fifth seed Chinese Wang Yihan defeated her.

Top seed Li Xuerui and second seed Intanon Ratchanok are ready for the quarter finals together with Saina Nehwal after easy wins in two games.
Women’s doubles

In women’s doubles number four seed Kim Ha Na and Jung Kyung Eun is out. Compatriots Jang Ye Na and Kim So Young defeated them. Number five seed Indonesians Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth and Rizki Amelia Pradipta also left the tournament losing against Japanese Maeda and Kakiiwa. 


The Danes Marie Røpke and Line Damkjær Kruse surprisingly defeated sixth seed Chinese Ma Jin and Zhong Qianxin. They are know facing compatriots Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Christinna Pedersen. All other favourites went through.

Men’s doubles
Two new Chinese constellations, Cai Yun/Chai Biao and Fu Haifeng/Hong Wei, looked impressively good in the men’s double this Thursday at Yonex Denmark Open. Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng won the Olympics together in 2012 but are now paired with new young players.

Tomorrow Fu Haifeng and Hong Wei will face the Danish Men’s double Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen, who won their match easily, 21-14/21-14, in two games against Moren and Szkudlarczyk from Poland. The Danes faced Fu Haifeng in the final at the Olympics last year, when he played together with Cai Yun. 

Mixed doubles
After victory in two tight games, Christinna Pedersen and Joachim Fischer are ready for the quarter finals together with compatriots Julie Houmann and Anders Kristiansen.

All the other favourites are through to the next round, but the 7th seed Indonesians Markis Kido and Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth is out after loosing to English Chris Adcock and Gabrielle White.
