Seina Nehwal is back in Odense Idrætshal in Denmark, this year to defend her title as winner of last year’s Yonex Denmark Open.
As many other of the worlds best badminton players, Seina Nehwal, defending champion, played her first match Wednesday at Yonex Badminton Denmark 2013. As expected, the fourth seeded Indian badminton star won 21-12, 21-16 against Stefani Stoeva from Bulgaria.
“Like every other year it’s a though tournament, so let’s see how it goes. I’m in good shape and always want to do my best here in Denmark”, Saina Nehwal said, speaking about her expectations for this year’s tournament.
No first titles in a year
Seina Nehwal, currently ranked number four on the BWF World ranking list, actually haven’t won any tournament since Denmark Open 2012. She became runner up in French Open 2012 and made it to the semi finals in Indonesia Open, Swiss Open and All England.
According to the 23-year-old Indian sport star there is still a lot of hard work to do to keep up with especially the best Chinese players.
“It hasn’t been easy for me this year. After the Olympics I had a lot of small injuries and I didn’t have too much time to recover. But I keep working hard to perform on the same high level”, the Indian girl said.
Thursday Seina Nehwal is facing Kirsty Gilmour from Scotland in the women’s singles second round.
