Kamilla Rytter-Juhl/Mads Pieler Kolding and Christinna Pedersen/Joachim Fischer Nielsen won their first matches at Denmark Open 2013.

As expected, the two best mixed doubles in Denmark are through to second round in Yonex Denmark Open 2013.

Christinna Pedersen and Joachim Fischer Nielsen won against Gideon Markus Fernaldi and Rizki Amelia Pradipta from Indonesia, 21-16, 21-18. But as the score indicates, it wasn’t an easy match for the Danish couple whom struggled more than usually.

“It wasn’t a good match today. The good thing is that we still managed to win and that’s the most important”, Fischer says.

“We can do a lot better then we did today, but this is a typical first round for us. We play a little slower than usually and then the Indonesians are strong. But I’m sure we are going to play better further on in the tournament”, Christinna Pedersen says.

Rytter Juhl/Pieler Kolding controlled their match
Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Mads Pieler Kolding also won against their opponents from Indonesia Puspita Richi Dili and Riki Widianto in two games 21-11, 21-16.

“It’s a really good feeling to get started, especially when you win. (…) Here in Denmark you always want to do your best, so it is also about not getting to nervous”, Mads Pieler Kolding says.

First game was won easily while the second set – regarding the score – looked a little bit closer.

“In the second game the energy level was a bit lower than in the first game, but we were in control during the entire match,” Kamilla Rytter Juhl says.

The two Danes are now facing a big challenge in their next mixed double match Friday. They are up against the number one seed, Nan Zhang/Yunlei Zhao from China.

- We have played against them twice and they kicked the hell out of us both times, so I hope we can play a better match this time, Mads Pieler Kolding says.

Astrup/Helsbøl and Grebak/Skaarup out
The Chinese already took down another Danish mixed double, Kim Astrup Sørensen and Maria Helsbøl, in their first match Tuesday night at Odense Idrætshal, 21-17, 21-9.

The Danes played well in the first game, but had difficulties to keep the high level throughout the whole match.

“We tried to play our own game, focusing on moving the girl back on the court. We did really well in the first game, but in the second we didn’t managed to keep up with them.”

“I would have loved to play two good games, then I would have been more satisfied. It’s the first time we play against a couple ranked in the top 10, and then even the best one’s in the world, so we can use this experience for many good things”, Kim Astrup said.

Lena Grebak and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen also played their first match Tuesday evening, which also ended up being their last. They lost a close match to Isabel Herttrich and Peter Kaesbauer from Germany, 19-21, 18-21.
