The director of Badminton Denmark, Charlotte Malmroes, cannot stress enough the importance of having af Super Series Premier tournament on Danish soil

In just a few days, one out of this seasons five Super Series Premier tournaments will take place right in the Fionian city, Odense. Yonex Denmark Open is about to begin, and the director of Badminton Denmark, Charlotte Malmroes, hails the fact the tournament once again this year is in the Premier class.

- It means everything for os to have a Premier tournament. There is an enormous difference between hosting a such and then a regular Super Series tournament. Just to give an example, all the Top10-players from the different categories have to play, and if they can't, they've got to have a really good excuse, Malmroes says.

Big players, big money
That is why nearly all the best players in the world will be present in Odense to participate in Yonex Denmark Open. But it is not the only reason. According to Malmroes, another factor also plays a part in the prestige of the tournament.

- It's not just on the court you can see the difference. The prize money are also in a totally different class, as well as the sponsorships.

Wide effects
But the effects of the Premier label reach a lot further than just the green badminton courts. Every actor in this process gains a lot from being a part of it, Malmroes states.

- Furthermore, the tournament is a win for both the city, the local badminton club OBK, for the industrial and work environment and so many other people who are involved with Yonex Denmark Open. So we're very happy about, and proud of, hosting a Premier tournament here on Danish soil.
