Badminton Denmark perpetuates the historical results at the Olympics in London by extending the contract with sports director.
Finn Trærup-Hansen will also be in charge of the Danish badminton elite the next several years. The new contract will run until March 2017, thus ensuring stability and continuity towards the next major championships - where the primary is World Championship 2014 in Denmark and the Olympics in Rio 2016. Several years of fierce and strategic effort in the sports management with sports director Finn Trærup-Hansen can now continue in the same direction. Badminton Denmark has great confidence in the work that Finn Trærup-Hansen has done and there are high expectations of Danish medal harvest in the future.
- It is a significant technical and strategic capacity Badminton Denmark have in Trærup which is unique - and has given Danish badminton great results, says Charlotte Malmroes, CEO of Badminton Denmark.
Finn Trærup-Hansen is happy that he can be allowed to continue his mission up to 2017.
- There is so many good things that I would like to continue with. The Olympic success is obviously very motivating, but also requires good results in the future. Two areas motivate me a lot. The work around the team of coaches has changed over the past four years. We leverage each other's capabilities by acting as a team with different roles and responsibilities and it is a great strength. The second is working with the players, where we focus on having a partnership with each player on a common basis - both on the physical, health and personal level. We have worked a lot to support the players 'mind setting' when they go on the pitch - and this is an area that should be developed over the next few years.
Charlotte Malmroes stresses that just this setup in the sports management - both regarding seniors and talent development, initiated by Finn Trærup-Hansen, as one of the major reasons for the extension has been entirely natural.
- We are only almost just begun. Trærup, must of course, have the chance to continue his work, says Malmroes.
Finn Trærup has been employed twice in Danish badminton. First as a coach from 1992 to 1995. And then as sports director in 2005 til today. In the intervening period, he was first coach in Australia and then sports manager in England. All experience must be in play - Finn Trærup has a clear mission:
- I really want to have that all knowledge of practice becomes visible and we work to bring science into the daily training. In this way we would like to become a smarter organization, which in future can continue to obtain medals to Denmark – because it gets harder and harder. The prerequisite for this process is a culture change - and that is what I am working for.
