The mixed doubles are on: look who’s through

The main tournament begun Monday evening with a series of mixed doubles. The following is a resume of some of the most notable matches. 


Monday evening marked the beginning of the main tournament, with 12 mixed doubles. Read further to see how it went in some of the highly awaited matches. 

 


Ko Sung Hyun/Kim Ha Na vs. Ronald Alexander/Melati Daeva (7:00 PM)


21-19, 21-17


A great match unfolded on Court 1 at 7:00 PM, when first seeded Korean pair Ko Sung Hyun and Kim Ha Na met Ronald Alexander and Melati Daeva from Indonesia. 


The match started out quite even and had the Koreans as winners of first set by a small margin; 21-19. The second set followed the same pattern, and were close until the end. The Koreans sealed the deal, winning 21-17 in second set after a tough fight. 



Joachim Fischer Nielsen/Christinna Pedersen vs. Pranaav Jerry Chopra/Reddy N. Sikki (7:00 PM)


21-15, 21-14


The Danish pair Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen met Indians Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Reddy N. Sikki at 7:00 PM. Fischer/Pedersen gained control of the match in its beginning and won first set solidly by 21-15. 


The control continued in second set, with the lead being steady all the way. The Danes won second set by a safe 21-14. A controlled match by the Olympic bronze-medallists from 2012. 



Kim Astrup/Line Kjærsfeldt vs. Mark Lamfuss/Isalbel Herttrich (7:00 PM)


23-21, 21-17



At the same time on the court next too, another Danish pair, Kim Astrup and Line Kjærsfeldt met German Mark Lamfuss and Isabel Herttrich. 


The Danes quickly came under pressure and were behind 18-9 at a point, but they made a remarkable comeback through the first set, ending up winning it 23-21. 


The second set developed more even from the beginning, the pairs following each other closely, with a close margin a long way into the set. 


In the end Astrup/Kjærsfeldt took charge though, and they ended up winning 21-17. A great victory by the Danish upcomings



Chris Adcock/Gabrielle Adcock vs. Robert Mateusiak/Nadiedza Zieba (7:45 PM)


21-14, 10-21, 21-12


In the next round of matches, beginning 7:45 PM, English husband and wife Chris and Gabrielle Adcock cruised towards victory against Polish Robert Mateusiak and Nadiedza Zieba, winning first set comfortably. 


The two pairs met during the Olympics, where the Polish duo won. Therefore, revenge was in order for the Brits. But the polish pair had a better second set, leading all the way through and taking the set by remarkably 21-10. In the third set, Mr. and Mrs. Adcock gained back momentum and won 21-12, which brings them through to the next round.



Tontowi Ahmad/Lilyana Natsir vs. Huang Kaixiang/Li Yinhui (8:45 PM)


21-12, 21-11



A late night snack was awaiting the spectators when Indonesian Olympic gold winners Tontowi Ahmad and Lilyana Natsir took on Chinese Huang Kaixiang and Li Yinhui on Court 2. 


Ahmad/Natsir came up best, leading by several points till the break, where the score was 21-12. The dominance continued in the second set, which had the Indonesian favourites consolidating their victory by winning 21-11, thereby going through. 


The match ended a day with many highlights, in an already promising version of Yonex Denmark Open presented by Danisa.
