Danish stars seek to follow up on Olympic success

10/18/2016 1:38 PM |  XXBadmintonDenmark.com - Gamle |  Mathias Julius Falkengaard

The biggest stars are looking forward to play at home soil, and they’re feeling ready for it. For fan favourite Viktor Axelsen a tough task to regain his prime from the Olympics awaits.

The press conference before the start of Yonex Denmark Open presented by Danisa had a lot of stardust to it. Olympic medallists Viktor Axelsen sat down besides the duo of Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl, with national coach Kenneth Jonassen in between.

All of them were expressing excitement going into the event, each hoping to use their momentum following the Olympics, where Axelsen won bronze, and Pedersen/Juhl brought home silverware. Today, exactly two months has passed since Pedersen/Juhl won their medals.

-It’s really cool that its precisely two months ago. We have to celebrate that. It was a huge experience for us. I don’t think anyone had seen it coming. Of course it’s going to be something else in Odense, but we’re looking forward to be playing at home. There’s always a lot of feelings involved when it’s at home, Kamilla Rytter Juhl says.

More “Viktories” for Axelsen?

The same goes for Viktor Axelsen, who’s chasing his first ever gold in a Superseries tournament. According to coach Kenneth Jonassen, it’s questionable whether the spectators will get to see Axelsens form of the Olympics, but he has worked consistently to be ready, the coach assures his fans. And Viktor himself believes that he can go far in the tournament.

-My expectations are more to myself than to the result. I expect to handle it as well as I can. I also expect that I can chase a form on a high level. If I play my game, I know that the victories will come. I hope and believe that I can go far, but there are no easy games in this tournament, Viktor Axelsen states.

What Yonex Denmark Open presented by Danisa holds for the Danish stars, the next six days will show.
