… Yet an indispensable one, consisting of more than 200 unpaid volunteers.
The larger part of these volunteers are members of the local badminton club, Odense Badmintonklub (in short, OBK) and they are all here this week to give a helping hand with the event we know as Yonex Denmark Open. One of the volunteers, Svend, expresses:

-    It is my impression that there is a lot of backing for this event. Of course it’s hard to find volunteers because it’s so many days. And many volunteers are needed. Because of that fact, OBK need to do a lot of work in order to find the volunteers required. But so far everything is going well, I believe.

Not all the volunteers from OBK are playing and paying members of the club. Some of them are also parents to some of the young players in the club. And even one of the volunteers, Søren, is giving a hand this week although his son, who was Sørens original link to the club, stopped playing badminton for OBK some while ago. About his desire for helping, Søren explains:

-    It’s the joy you feel when helping the club like this. And the fact that you’re part of a bigger team helping. Secondly, you get to see a lot of great badminton of course.

Without the volunteers there would be no Denmark Open
The fact that these volunteers are so invaluable is often both a bit underrated and forgotten. But let the truth be said – the volunteers are unmistakably one of the most important reasons for why things always seem to run smooth. In one line, Dorthe says it all:

-    I’m simply doing this because no organization can survive without its volunteers.
