Double up on the doubles

Another page has been turned in the book of Premier Super Series tournaments as the first rounds of the main tournament of Yonex Denmark Open were played today. For the Danes participating, there are some positive stories to tell.

Especially in the double’s category, since both two Danish male and female couples made their way through to tomorrow’s second round.

In the afternoon, Jonas Rasmussen and Mads Conrad-Petersen faced Ki Jung Kim and Baek Choel Shin in a two set match that ended with the result 21-13 / 21-17 in favor of the Danes. About the match, Mads explains:

-    We’re really happy with that win. We were focused from the first rally and gave them no chance of controlling the match. I think we controlled the match from the start to the end.

Another Danish men’s double constellation won their first fixture at Yonex Denmark Open today. For Carsten Mogensen and Mathias Boe, their meeting with Thai couple Sudket and Songphon seemed like your typical day at the office. Although it wasn’t quite like that, Mathias expresses:

-    We knew it would be a tricky match. The Thai pair is like day and night. Sometimes they play extremely well and sometimes they’re not really up for it and don’t want to give it an effort. Today, in the beginning, I think the really tried, but we were on top of them.

Exciting matches for the women ended with two Danish victories
Those two victories were delivered firstly by Line Kruse and Marie Røpke and late in the evening by Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Christinna Pedersen. Line and Marie managed to gain a win against Hye Won Eom and Ye Na Jang from Korea, while Kamilla and Christinna obtained their victory by defeating Japanese Miyuki Maeda and Satoko Suetsana, who were seeded 4 in this tournament. The Danes won by 21-19 / 21-19:

-    We’re pretty happy right now. It was a tough draw for us, but we believed we could win and fought to the very end. So we’re really happy that we won, Christinna says right after the match.

Anne Skelbæk/Maria Helsbøl, Sandra-Maria Jensen/Line Kjaersfeldt and Rasmus Bonde/Anders Kristiansen all lost their first matches in the main tournament today.
