In the first round of the qualification for Yonex Denmark Open presented by Danisa the japanese star Kenichi Tago couldn't pull through, as he lost to the young Danish badminton player Kim Bruun in three games.

Today Yonex Denmark Open presented by Danisa begun. In the first round of the qualification for the mens singles tournament, former world no. 3 Kenichi Tago lost to the young danish badminton player Kim Bruun with the score 11-21/21-17/21-16.

Kim Bruun is currently number 136 on the World Rankings List, almost 100 position behind Kenichi Tago. He was very satisfied with the result against the japanese player.

"I'm extremely happy! I know Tago is a formidable player, when he is at his best. Even though he wasn't quite there today, it still means a great deal to me to be able to beat him," said Kim Bruun.

Kenichi Tago has been battling a back injury since before the World Championship this year, so it is fair to say that he is not the same player, who ranked number 3 on the World Rankings List as late as April last year. Despite that it still comes as a surprise that he did not manage to qualify for Yonex Denmark Open presented by Danisa.

In the first game of the match Kim Bruun felt that he didn't stand a chance against the former All England finalist. But he managed to pull his act together and change his way of playing to grab the next two games.

"I started off way to slow and let Tago push me to the backcourt in the first game. But in the last two games I got my defence going and played a little more hesitant which paid off," said Kim Bruun.

Kim Bruun will have to overcome one more hurdle to reach the tournament. Later today he has to face his fellow Dane Rasmus Fladbjerg in a match, where he once more will be the underdog.
