At the end of June it’s the last chance for the national badminton associations to send their offer to BWF, if they want to be a part of the World Championship in 2013 or 2014. And Badminton Association of Denmark is ready to make their offer. An important decision says former World Champion and now director of Sport One Denmark Steen Fladberg.
- First of all it’s important for badminton as a sport, that Denmark gets the World Championship. Badminton is one of the big sports in Denmark, and if Denmark gets the World Championship it’s good for the position of the sport, Steen Fladberg says.
Good media attention On daily basis Steen Fladberg works with sponsors, and in his opinion a World Championship in Denmark could be desirable.
- There’s a lot of media at a tournament like the World Championship, and there’s a lot of people watching the broadcastings. Specially in Asia, so if a company want’s to promote themselves in Asia, this tournament could be a good platform for them, Fladberg says.
Finally Steen Fladberg think, that if Denmark can get the tournament, it would be great for the whole badminton environment in Denmark.
- The World Championship gives a lot of attention, and that’s great for all the volunteers, who take a week of to be a part of this. A tournament like this makes all people a part of something big.
Steen Fladberg became World Champion in mens double with Jesper Helledie in 1983, came second in mixed doubles same year with Pia Nielsen, and took the bronze medal three years earlier in 1980 in mixed doubles with Pia Nielsen.
