Last year’s runner-up Dicky Palyama got a good start at Copenhagen Masters. He won against the Malaysian Daren Liew, and for Dicky Palyama it is really great to be back at the Copenhagen Masters:
- I feel very honored to be here, and for me it is like a second home to come back to Copenhagen, because I have lived here for three years, I’m feeling good, Dicky Palyama says.
The two players only met one time before, when the younger Daren Liew surprised and won in the Denmark Super Series. Daren Liew had played the qualification round but still managed to defeat the more experienced Palyama.
Daren liew got off to a great start and was truly more confident after his debut yesterday. But as Dicky felt more secure on court, his offensive play was a huge factor in the match. Dicky Palyama therefore won the opening game 21-16. The Dutch’s defensive fight was also stunning to the audience, and even not great smashes from Liew were enough to be a danger to Palyama.
Daren Liew was trailing in the second game, but after a 11-7 lead he made some unforced errors and Palyama came back on track. And just as most of the crowd expected a straight win for Palyama, Daren Liew wanted it different. He survived lots of match point and stole the second game 25-23.
The final game was a thrilling experience and both played seemed tired and nervous. But the 23-year old Daren Liew could not keep up his pace after a 11-10-lead and suffered a close defeat after 75 minutes of play. In the end Palyama celebrated a 21-17-win.
Dicky’s win means he is ready for the group final against Peter Gade. They played a similar match last year, where Dicky played amazing and fought his way into the final.
- I wish him the 10th title, but I’m going to give my best and try to stop him, Dicky Palyama ended.
