Almost like China use to, Japan has dominated the women’s doubles event in this year’s Denmark Open. Japan’s three competing pairs have been at least one level higher than the rest of the pairs this week, but in the end, there was no doubt about who would take the title. Top seed and world’s number 5 Miyuki Maeda and Satoko Suetsuna were superior in the final winning 21-17 and 21-13 against their fellow Japanese Shizuka Matsuo and Mami Naito. The runner up pair was seeded six and maybe had a bit more tired legs today than their opponents. After played 100 minutes yesterday Naito and Matsuo could not be a threat to the favorites. Suetsuna and Maeda only lost one set during the tournament when the Danes Marie Røpke and Lena Frier played them in the second round. After the price ceremony the winners were truly pleased to have won the Denmark Super Series. - We are very happy to win today, Satoko Suetsuna says. And the Japanese girls have been the super stars of this tournament this year. And both of them have had a good experience this week: - We like Denmark, it is good her, says a smiling Miyuki Maeda. It was Maeda and Suetsunas first Super Series win this season, and the triumph will help them reach Top 4 in the world again. |
