In one of the longest finals day in modern times, with play lasting seven hours on the final day of the 100th Championship, China took the mixed doubles through Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei and the women’s doubles through Olympic champions Du Jing and Yu Yang.

That gave them two titles compared to their five last year.

The Danes won their second title when they took the men’s doubles through unseeded 2003 world champions Lars Paaske and Jonas Rasmussen, who beat team-mates and fourth seeds Carsten Mogensen and Mathias Boe.

But they had to save fourth match points after wasting a 17-12 lead in the final game before winning 21-23, 21-19, 26-24 on their second match point.

Rasmussen avenged her defeat by top seed Wang Yihan in last year’s three-game final by beating her 21-14, 18-21, 21-19 in 60 minutes in front of a 6,300 near-capacity crowd.

It is the second time Rasmussen has won the title from an unseeded position.

She said: “It feels totally wonderful, the same emotions as 2008. It’s so wonderful to be on top at the All England because every player wants to be there.”

Ramussen, whose last tournament win was when she beat Wang Yihan in the Denmark Open in October with an almost identical scoreline, said: “I knew my best chance to win was to keep the rallies long. When she got back to 19-19 in the third game I just focused on winning the points.”

Chong Wei, who ended 2009 by winning the Super Series Masters final, became the first man to win three Super Series titles in a row, having started the year with wins in Korea and his native Malaysia.

Chong Wei won 21-19, 21-19 against the unseeded 2007 world junior runner-up Kenichi Tago then said: “It is a big relief to win the title at last. It was a big dream to win, especially as this was the 100th anniversary.”

Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei came all the way from the qualifying rounds to lift the mixed doubles title by beating Indonesia’s 2005 and 2007 world champions Nova Widianto and Liliyana Natsir 21-18 23-25 21-18 in 90 minutes.

Zhao Yunlei returned to the court to with Cheng Shu in the women’s doubles but last year’s runners-up had to settle for second best once again against the Olympic champions Du Jing and Yu Yang, the 2008 runners-up. China’s top-seeded pair won 20-22 21-16, 21-13 after a 70-minute battle.
