Danish Badminton Association has applied to host the world championship in 2013 or 2014. If the request goes through it would give the Danish badminton players and the audience a great experience, says the national
coach Lars Uhre.
- To host the world championships would give us the opportunity to play in front of our Danish audience while we play against the best players in the world and of course it would give us an advantage to play at home because we know the conditions very well,
says Lars Uhre and continues:
- The Danish audience gets to see the world championship live and see the players at their absolute best.
We can manage the job
Denmark has not hosted the world championship since 1999, but Lars Uhre hopes, that the decision-makers choose Denmark when the final decision has to be made.
- We can manage the job. We have great experience in hosting big tournaments. We are one of the biggest badminton nations in the world and the best in Europe. England will host the world championship this summer and has the Olympics next year, so there should
be a possibility of getting the world championship to Denmark.
Even though badminton is well-known in Denmark, the possibility of hosting the world championship on home ground could give even more attention to the sport.
- Danish journalists will focus a lot on the world championship if it is hosted in Denmark and that will mean more attention to the sport which we can use to profile the sport even more, says Lars Uhre.
Lars Uhre and the rest of the national team travel to China later this month to play Sudirman Cup. |
