Danish Badminton as first movers

The site was elected to be “Website of the Month” on one of the really big international badminton sites, Badzine. Click here: http://www.badzine.info/index.php/features/website-of-the-month/2029-website-of-the-month-denmark-open.html for more information.

Trine Bay, communication manager for the Badminton Association of Denmark says:
”The media environment has changed dramatically. The competition from other sports is tough and the media houses are under financial pressure. We had to find a new way to make it easy for the media and users to see and read about badminton. Therefore we used the free social media to establish the platforms and after that Iframed and provided RSS-feed on www.denmarkopen.dk.”

During the tournament, the web interviews were very useful for the present journalists who missed the chance of catching the players in the mixed zone, because at least the web interviews enabled them to bring player quotes.

Trine Bay continues:
”We have had overwhelmingly positive feedback on the coverage of Denmark Open. However, it does not stop there. We are already busy developing the concept in time for next year’s events.

Lars Lundov, CEO, Sport Event Denmark, is pleased about the initiative:
“We see the Badminton Association of Denmark as first movers on the digital arena, and thanks to the badminton community future hosts of major international sports events in Denmark now have the opportunity to learn and benefit from the experience built with Denmark Open 2009”.

In 2010, Denmark hosts quite a number of events - a series of the WTA Tournament, the UCI World Track Championships 2010, the U18 2010 IIHF World U18 Championship, Danish Open Match Race 2010 and the EHF Women's European Handball Championship 2010.

2011 is shaping up to be a momentous year as Denmark hosts: The 2011 UCI Road World Championships, the 2011 UCI BMX World Championships, the 2011 UCI Para-cycling World Championships, the 2011 World Curling Championships women and the UEFA European U21 Championship.

In terms of badminton, the BadmintonAssociation of Denmark and Sport Event Denmark are preparing a bid for the World Badminton Championships 2013, bearing in mind all the positive digital experience with Denmark Open 2009.
