The newly formed Chinese men's doubles Fu Haifeng/Zhan Nan, won the Yonex Denmark Open 2014 against Korean Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong. China make history and win all five titles at the Yonex Denmark Open.
Fu Haifeng is not missing many international titles on its badminton CV. Four WC-titles and an Olympic gold at the top. Late Sunday he could add a new title: Winner of Yonex Denmark Open.
The final of men's doubles became a new Chinese-Korean showdown. Fu Haifeng/Zhan Nan only have played together at international level since February 2014, and the Chinese had the rematch to a defeat in June 2014 at the semifinals of the BCA Indonesian Open 2014.
The relatively new Chinese constellation startet well in the first set and went from 5-5 to 11-7 and Fu Haifeng/Zhan Nan took the first set with 21-13.
The second set was more closely. Behind 7-10 Fu Haifeng/Zhan Nan took the lead with 11-10. The Koreans got the first game point at 20-19, but the Chinese pair who could claim the victory in a close decision by 25-23.
It was the first international title together for Fu Haifeng/Zhan Nan:
- China has not have much success in the men's doubles for a time. It is an important victory for us, and we are pleased with our first major international title. We hope that we can do it just as well in the French Open next week, says Fu Haifeng.
