The chinese favorites at Yonex Denmark Open Xu Chen/Ma Jin and the world champions Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei started out slowly in the first round of the mixed double's. Nevertheless, they left an impressive impression in the first round of Yonex Denmark Open.
Xu Chen/Ma Jin faced Max Schwenger/Carla Nelte and the Germans was in front of the first game at the interval. However, the chinese turned around the first set, winning 21-18. The Germans kept fighting in the second set, but slowly Xu Chen/Ma Jin got used to play in the arena and the kept the control of the game, even though the Germans were closing up at 14-16. It ended up being their last point the won in the match. Xu and Ma won 21-14 and seemed quite comfortable on the court, leaving a promising view of what to expect from their participation in Yonex Denmark Open 2014.
The world champions Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei played against another world champion, Shin Baek Choel, who won the men's doubles world championship. Nevertheless, mixed doubles is another game and Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei quickly showed why they are the world champions. Without any problems they won the first game 21-14. Zhang Nan was controlling the back line, while Zhao Yunlei guarded the net effectively.
Except for a close finish, Zhang and Zhao had the time to smile and enjoy the second set, before they finally won the set 22-20. The world champions took the first step towards another great win in Denmark.
The Chinese favorites are joined in the second round by second seeded Danes Joachim Fischer/Christinna Pedersen. The Danes won comfortably in two sets with no struggles. However, there were three seeded mixed doubles that struggled too much in the first round. Seventh seeded Germans Michael Fuchs/Birgit Michels, sixth seeded Koreans Ko Sung Hyun/Kim Ha Na and the fifth seeded Englishmen Chris Adcock/Gabrielle Adcock were all eliminated already in the first round.
