Mogensen reclaims title – this year with Boe

Carsten Mogensen is once again one of the two best men's doubles players at the Copenhagen Masters. This year Mathias Boe joined him on the podium after they beat Mads Conrad-Petersen and last year's other winner, Mads Pieler Kolding.

The men's doubles final at the Yonex Copenhagen Masters had ended up being an all-Danish duel between world no. 3 Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen and up and coming Mads Conrad-Petersen/Mads Pieler Kolding.

Both pairs had won their semifinals against foreign pairs yesterday and displayed both flaky play as well as superb skills, and given the circumstances of the two pairs knowing each other so well, there was no way predicting how this match would end out beforehand.

An uneven affair
But not surprisingly, it was Boe and Mogensen who were got the better start. They quickly created a gap down to Kolding and Conrad and were ahead with no less than eight points at the interval, leading by 11-3.

Kolding and Conrad did not gain in on their compatriots during the first game, and only managed to scrape together eight points in total before Boe and Mogensen reached 21.

No doubt in the end
There was a bit more tension in the beginning of the second game. It was obvious that Kolding and Conrad were determined to better here than they had done in the first game.

And initially, that was exactly what they did. Although they were still behind, it was only by a few points. Thus Boe and Mogensen lead by 11-7 at this interval.

Though Kolding and Conrad came close after that, and almost leveled the score at 13-15, it was in the end Boe and Mogensen who could leave the court as victors. They eventually pulled away score wise and won the second game by 21-14.

- We're in control all the way
Carsten Mogensen was after the match quite satisfied with they way he and his partner played.

- In short terms, I think it's a match where we're in control from the first rally. We're really good in the service and return situations, og we're literally everywhere on the court. That's why it came to look so dominant. They try a bit harder in the second game, but it really didn't make a difference in the end.

Mogensen think he and Boe reached a pretty high level of play. Comforting, since a trip to Asia and two Super Series tournaments is just around the corner.

- It's always difficult to expect that you'll play your best, but I actually think we were quite close today. It was great to play a match like that before we head east to Asia. It wasn't something I dared to expect, but it was definitely something I had hoped for.

- Everything went wrong
Mads Pieler Kolding, on the other hand, was everything but satisfied with how the match went for him and his partner.

- Everything went wrong today. Perhaps we weren't focused or prepared enough. We should have concentrated more on just giving it all we had instead of patting each other on the back that much.
