Yoo Yeon Sung and Lee Yong Dae have won the title in the men's doubles category at the Yonex Denmark Open after having beaten Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan 21-19 / 21-16 in the final
Yoo Yeon Sung was back in the final at the Yonex Denmark Open, a year after he had secured the title with his now former partner, Shin Baek Choel.
Nowadays, Yoo Yeon Sung is partnering Lee Yong Dae, and today this new Korean pair had the chance of winning their first title together.
In the men's doubles final at the Yonex Denmark Open they were set to meet the Indonesian world champions, Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan.
Fast paced start
Yoo Yeon Sung and Lee Yong Dae were of to the best start in the beginning of the match, where they entered the interval with an 11-7 lead. That gap only increased throughout the game, which was filled with a lot of fast paced rallies, some longer than other.
Both pairs focused a lot on the service situation, emphasizing the importance of delivering a good service or a returning the shuttle well.
Ahsan and Setiawan gained in on the Koreans towards the end of the game, but could not prevent them from closing the game eventually. Yoo Yeon Sung and Lee Yong Dae won the first game 21-19 after sixteen minutes of play.
”Because we lead from the start, our confidence is high. We knew it would be a tough match, but it always helps when you've got a lot of confidence.” Yoo Yeon Sung said after the match.
Title reclaimed
The blue shirted Koreans once again got the better start after having commenced the following game. The won the four first rallies and went on to enter the interval with another 11-7 lead.
The match in total was very intense and well played. Despite the lack of those classic long rallies, where both pairs display great skill in both offense as well as defense, the crowd in Odense Sports Park got the entertainment they had payed for this Sunday afternoon.
And it definitely showed why it was these two pairs who had reached the final today. But the match had to end, and it did so with a Korean straight game victory. They secured the second game by winning 21-16 and thus secured the title.
”We have been very nervous up to this tournament, and have therefore been training a lot in order to do good. That, combined with our great partnership, makes the difference today, and that's why we win.” says Lee Yong Dae.
