Sara Shahhosseini’s homeland Iran has no tradition for badminton. Despite that the Iranian women is involved in the sport through many ways.

Born and raised in Iran Sara Shahhosseini grew up in a country far away from rackets and shuttlecocks. But her father introduced her to badminton in a young age and now much of her life is about the sport.

Home in Iran Sara Shahhosseini has played badminton at national level. Her brother competes in international tournaments but Sara is not in Odense to win medals at Yonex Denmark Open

“Normally I’m an umpire at international tournaments. I judged at Dutch Open last week, but I have no license to do it here at a Super Series. So here I’m Helping the promotion of Solibad, but that’s exciting too because I love being around the sport,” she says

Charities through badminton
For Sara Shahhosseini badminton is not all about work at the moment. She’s also a voluntary for a charity project.

The project is called Solibad and through badminton it tries to help children to a better life. Sara is ambassador for Solibad, but how is humanity work and badminton related? Sara Shahhosseini explains:

“Solibad is a charity founded in France but we collect funds for poor children all around the world. We want to show badminton community’s that it is possible to make a difference. Our goal is to get support from all national badminton federations and right now the Austrian, Belgian, Irish badminton federations are supporting us,” she says.

Even though Sara is working for Badmintonphoto at Yonex Denmark Open she hopes to get opportunities to talk about Solibad.

“I’m not here to make big advertising for Solibad during my stay here, but I hope I can talk to some of the guys from Badminton Denmark and maybe they will support the project,” she smiles.

Sara has just finished a study in accounting and economics, but this week it’s all about badminton and a little bit about charity.
