Men’s single
World’s number one, Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia, made it through to the semi-final by defeating Jan Ø Jørgensen 21-8, 21-18, 21-5. The Dane played an almost perfect first game and for long time the Danish crowd in Odense thought that he was going all the way against the Malaysian badminton star. But when Lee Chong Wei started taking over the control in second and third game, there wasn’t much to do for the 25-year-old Dane.

Lee Chong Wei is facing Chinese third seed Du Pengyu in Saturday’s semi-final. Other Chinese Chen Long is up against Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk from Thailand.

Women’s single
A lot of the big favourites have played their last match in Odense this year.
Defending champion, Seina Nehwal from India, lost a close match to Korean Sung Ji Hyun, 13-21/21-18/21-19.

Furthermore the Olympic champions and top seed at this year’s tournament, Chinese Li Xuerui, withdrew from her match against compatriot Wang Shixian. Chinese player Wang Yihan, who won the title back in 2010, won a close match against Bae Yeo Jun.

World Champion Intanon Ratchanok used three games to defeat Eriko Hirose from Japan.

Women’s double
One Danish, one Chinese and two Japanese pairs are through to Saturday's semi finals in the women's doubles category.

Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Christinna Pedersen faced compatriots Marie Røpke and Line Kruse in their quarter final today. In that match, second seeds Pedersen and Rytter Juhl were put under pressure, but managed to secure the win convincingly after a close first game. They won 24-22 / 21-10.

Reika Kakiiaw and Miyuki Maeda beat Kim So Young and Jang Ye Na in a three game match, which ended 22-20 in the deciding game.

The other Japanese pair, Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi, won a more solid victory in their match against Duanganong Aroonkesorn and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul from Thailand.

hinese Bao Yixin and Tang Jinhua are through to the semi finals after their compatriots, Yu Wang and Wang Xiaoli, withdrew earlier today.

Men’s double
Danish Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen proved why they are among the world’s best men’s double players by playing a match without making many mistakes. They defeated Chinese new pair Fu Haifeng/Hong Wei, 21-11/21-18.

The Danes are now facing Koreans Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong, also a new constellation, in the semi-finals.

First seed and world champions, Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan from Indonesia, are up against Kenichi Hayakawa/Hiroyuki Endo from Japan in the other semi-final.

Mixed double
One of the most remarkable matches ever played at Yonex Denmark Open took place Friday evening. Danes Christinna Pedersen and Joachim Fischer survived no more than 10 match points in third and final game against Koreans Ko Sung Hyun/Kim Ha Na and thereby won the match 21-14/10-21/30-29.

World champions Tontowi Ahmad and Lilyiana Natsir from Indonesia are also ready for the semi-finals after defeating Danes Julie Houmann and Anders Kristiansen. So are the two Chinese pairs Ma/Xu and Zhang/Zhao.
