Men’s single
The first day for the men’s single at Yonex Denmark Open was a good day for the favorites. The world’s number one and winner of last year’s Denmark Open, Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia, did what everybody expected, when he won in two games, 21-11/21-8, against Lee Dong Keun from Korea.

“I hope I can win the tournament again. I’m here to enjoy it all and do my best,” he says.

Tomorrow he will face the Dane Viktor Axelsen, who won against the world’s number ten Marc Zwiebler. Another Dane Jan Ø. Jørgensen, who is seeded as number five, is also through to the next out after he played three games against Takuma Ueda from Japan.
The Chinese players Long Chen and Pengyu Du are also through.

Women’s single
Danish Line Kjærsfeldt made Danish badminton proud when she made it into 2. round by winning her match 21-16/22-20 against Jiayuan Chen from Singapore. The Dane is one of many young talented girls trying to follow in the footsteps of top player Tine Baun who ended her carrier this spring.

China is still represented in the Women’s single with five players, including top seed and Olympic Champion Li Xuerui and former winner at Yonex Denmark Open in 2010, Wang Yihan. Other world top players as defending champion Saina Nehwal from India, Ratchanok Intanon from Thailand and Juliane Schenck from Germany are also through to next round.

Men’s doubles
No big surprise appeared in Men’s doubles.

The only seeded couple that didn’t manage to make their way through to 2. round was Kim Ki Jung and Kim Sa Rang from Korea. They lost their match against a strong Chinese couple, Fu Heifeng and Wei Hung, 9-21/21-16/21-12. For a long time Hu Heifeng has been playing with Cai Yun with whom he won the Olympic Games in London in 2012 and several of other titles. Cai Yun is also playing this tournament with his new partner Chai Biao.

The second seeded Danes, Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen, didn’t have any problems winning their match against Kevin Dennerly-Minturn and Oliver Leydon-Davis, 21-10/21-15.

Another young and talented Danish men’s double, Anders Skaarup Rasmussen and Kim Astrup Sørensen, other also made it through to 2. round beating Chris Adcock and Andrew Ellis, 23-21/21-17. Mads Pieler Kolding and Mads Conrad-Petersen lost a close match against Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong from Korea, 16-21/21-13/21-15.

Women’s doubles
The second seeded Danes, Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Christinna Pedersen, easily won their first match against Gabrielle White and Lauren Smith from England, 21-11/21-11.

“We had expected that it would be a tougher match, but we managed to stick to what we had planned and we didn’t make many mistakes,” Christinna Pedersen said.

All the best women’s doubles in the world from the big Asian countries as China, Indonesia, Korea and Japan are participating in this year’s tournament, and they also won their first matches. It’s not going to be easy for the two Danish girls to make it all the way on home soil.

Mixed doubles
No mixed doubles scheduled for Wednesday.
2. round is taking place Thursday.
