Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen are looking forward to Yonex Denmark Open, but admit that their mental state is not quite there yet
The Olympics are now sufficiently far back in time, so that Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen can start focussing on future challenges, and find the drive neccesary to overcome them. But is has been, and is still, a bit of a struggle, Boe admits.
- For us, it's all about being really motivated about what we're going into, being motivated about winning again, and bringing the neccesary humility with us onto the court. And that's something we've struggled a bit more with this time after the Olympics, than we've been used to, after having won other great things, Boe says.
The first time
According to him, it comes as bit of a surprise for the pair, that it has been harder for them this time to reach their top level after a big performance. They are getting there however:
- Of course it's improving by the day, but it has been tough pulling yourself up like that after the Olympics. Actually, I hadn't counted on that, because other times where we have done something big, we've usually found the passion and drive pretty quickly afterwards, Boe says before he points out:
- So I think it has been a bit tough this time. But it's slowly coming back now, and that's positive to us.
The shape is there
And better late than never. Yonex Denmark Open is just around the corner, and with no longer than a week and a half to go, Boe and Mogensen are more or less where they want to be. At least they are not lacking anything in their play. However, there is an other and equally important area where they are still a bit behind:
- I think our form is okay. We're both in great shape, and we're actually playing okay at practice, but we're still making too many easy mistakes, and we're still not quite focussed enough. And as always, the mental state is an important factor, which is no different at Denmark Open.
- It's a strong tournament. Everything that can crawl and walk is present at that tournament in the men's doubles, and it will be tough from day one. But can we play like I know we can, then we have some pretty good chances, Mathias Boe believes.
