Yonex Denmark Open is the playground for several talented as well as experienced Danish badminton players
Now less than two weeks to go. The Super Series Premier tournament, Yonex Badminton Denmark, is moving closer by the day as the players are doing their final preparations ahead of it.
A lot of Danes are participating, and it might be difficult to keep an eye out for every single one of them throughout the tournament. Badminton Denmark here brings you an overview of some of the players, who might be extra interesting to follow.
New kids on the block
Some Danish players have had a short break from tournaments since the Olympics. Among these are Kamilla Rytter Juhl, who no longer plays with Thomas Laybourn in mixed doubles, but now partners up with Mads Pieler Kolding. The new pair is having their debut in Odense, and this is someone who might be worth following closely.
Another new Danish pair is the men's doubles constellation with Rasmus Bonde and Mads Conrad-Petersen. The pair has already had their debut at China Masters, where the mananged to impress by beating Latif and Tazari of Malaysia, but this will be their first time to play at home soil. They face a yet unknown qualifier in their first round.
Mads Conrad-Petersens now former partner, Jonas Rasmussen, are for the time being playing men's doubles with Joachim Fischer Nielsen. The two gentlemen have already tried playing together at this year's Thomas Cup, which led to some solid perfomances, but this will be their first Super Series tournament together as a pair.
They start in the qualification and actually might end up meating Bonde and Conrad in their first round of the main tournament, seeing that they win their qualification matches.
The stars of tomorrow
In case you did not already know, Viktor Axelsen is featuring in the tournament. The 18 year old Dane, who currently ranks among the best 25 men's singles players in the world, will during Yonex Denmark Open be back in his birth town to play against the best of the best, litteraly.
He is up against Lee Chong Wei in his first round, and it will certainly be interesting to see him play against the Malaysian on home soil, where he has most of the, if not the entire, crowd in his back. Maybe he can put that advantage to some use.
Other young talents worth keeping an eye on are, among others, the two Solrød players, Rasmus Fladberg and Emil Holst, as well as Line Kjærsfeldt, who feature both in the women's singles and the mixed double's category.
