The semifinals are here: who will make it to the finals?

It’s the day of the semifinals and we have some very interesting matches to look forward to. Especially in women’s singles, it appears.

It could be a day of drama, intensity and nail-biting here in Odense as the semifinals of the 2017 DANISA DENMARK OPEN presented by VICTOR are to be played.

In women’s singles, defending champion here in Odense, Akane Yamaguchi, will try to get revenge for her current defeat at the World Champions against last year’s World Junior Champion, Chinese Chen Yufei. Yamaguchi has a 3-1 record against Chen, and most likely she would like to see that extended.

The other women’s singles semifinal is a real superstar-clash as world no. one Tau Tzu Ying takes on former World Champion Ratchanok Intanon. Tai Tzu Ying leads 8-7 against Ratchanok and they have a history of playing long, exhausting and intense matches. Let’s have another one of those, please!

In men’s singles yesterday’s “Villain” Kidambi Srikanth, who defeated Viktor Axelsen, is up against Wong Wing Ki Vincent with whom he has a 2-2 record. They have never played a match against each other that found it’s winner in just two games, so according to statistics, we’re in for a long one.

It will be exciting to see if Srikanth can follow up on yesterday’s great win against the World Champion and maybe go all the way. The star himself is quite modest about his chances of winning DANISA DENMARK OPEN presented by VICTOR, though.

- There are still a lot of good players left in the tournament so my focus is to play at little bit better in the next round and then we’ll see how it goes, says Srikanth.

Another clash today is between the last remaining Danes in the draw Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen who are up against the World Champions Liu Chen/Zhang Nan. They have a 1-1 record and last time they played the Chinese got a close win with the score 22-20 in the third game.

Let’s hope for a close match once again, and the crowd here in Odense will most defiantly be cheering for a different final outcome than last time.

In the quarter-finals yesterday, Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir were playing extremely well destroying Zhang Nan/Li Yinhui. It will be interesting to see if they can play at such a high level again today as they’re up against Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet.

In women’s doubles, one semifinal is pure Korean between Chanh Ye Na/Jung Kyung Eun and Lee So Hee/Shin Seung Chan whereas the other one is pure Japanese as Naoko Fukuman/Kurumi Yonao are playing Shiho Tanaka/Koharu Yonemoto.

We’re excited to see who makes it through to tomorrows finals and we’re hoping for a crazy day of badminton here in Odense at the semifinal-day of the 2017 DANISA DENMARK OPEN presented by VICTOR. The doors to Odense Idrætshal open at 11 AM.

LET’S GO!
