Defending champion Yamaguchi defeats Nehwal and is through to the semifinal!

Japanese Yamaguchi was just everywhere today playing one amazing shot after the other leaving Nehwal no chance in the clash between the two superstars.

Before the today’s quarter-final here in Odense the record between the two players was 1-1 with Yamaguchi winning their latest duel in three games.

Therefore, the scene was set for revenge for Nehwal against the no. four-seeded but Yamaguchi wasn’t on board with that plan at all. She played like the true Champion she is here in Odense leaving no doubt about the outcome of today’s match against her Indian opponent.

- I knew she was a strong player so therefore I was prepared and I could also play my own play today. We made a clear strategy by studying the opponent and a strength for me today was my mental stability, Yamaguchi said after the match.

The Japanese superstar was on fire as she stepped on court and after only 13 minutes the two players were ready to begin the second game. By that time, Yamaguchi had already claimed the first one with the convincing score 21-10.

At the beginning of the second game Nehwal got a better hold of it and kept up with Yamaguchi until interval were the Japanese had an 11-10 lead. It only took her four more minutes to win the remaining points she needed to secure the win. At the end, the score showed a Japanese 21-13 win in favor of the Japanese

Beforehand, the expectations for a long, intense and thrilling match was humming amongst the crowd but in just 29 minutes the match was over as Yamaguchi simply played too well for Nehwal having any chance at beating her today.

In the light of her performance today Yamaguchi must be considered a serious contender for the title here at DANISA DENMARK OPEN presented by VICTOR as the winner will be found on Sunday.

Yamaguchi is the defending champion here in Odense and she is really thriving at the 2017 DANISA DENMARK OPEN presented by VICTOR.

- I like it very much here in Denmark because the tournament is always organized very well and I really like the city, she says.

It will be interesting to see if she’ll be able to defend her title here in Odense. Before she gets that far a semifinal is waiting for her tomorrow where she will be playing last year’s World Junior Champion Chen Yufei from China.

Those two met as recently as at the Wolrd Championships this summer where Chen Yufei came out victorious. Yamaguchi does have a 3-1 record against Chen though, so we could be in for a dramatic semifinal tomorrow – and we can’t wait!
