The crowd in Odense was in for a treat Wednesday evening when the no. 1 seed in the men’s doubles from Denmark Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen played against the Dutch pair Jelle Maas/Robin Tabeling.

The Dutch qualification men’s doubles pair Jelle Maas/Robin Tabeling was up for a big mouthful when they met the Danish no. 1 seed and world’s no. 2 Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen.

The Danes have previously won the tournament seven years ago and this year they are chasing the title again and the pair looked ready as the judge yelled, “Play!”

The Dutch pair got at good start in the first game and quickly they produced a 9-7 lead, as the match was full of short rallies. Spontaneously the rallies were filled with great net play and both defensive and offensive play from both sides of the court. But the first game was also filled with flaws.

- To play second round you have to win the first and that is what we did today. It wasn’t particular pretty but now it is done and we are ready for tomorrow, says Mathias Boe after the match.

Towards the end of the first game the Danes showed what they are made of and turned on the turbo and after 15 minutes of play the first game point came for the Danes. The game ended 21-18.

As the second game began Maas/Tabeling quickly took the three first points and the Danes tried to catch up. At the 20-minute mark in the match the score showed 5-3 in the Dutch’s favor,

The points kept going back and forth as the pairs took turn making mistakes and playing great points. The crowd supported the Danes and at the interval in the second game Boe/Mogensen led with just a single point.

Following the interval the Danish pair came out with what looked like renewed energy and increased their lead towards the end of the second game. Even though the pair lost a couple of points in a row at the end of the game, they won the match after 34 minutes with the score 21-16.

After the match Boe wasn’t impressed with the game played on court and said they didn’t move too fast but in spite of this they were able to close the match comfortably.

- We have to get used to the conditions, and then we didn’t move our feet very fast, said Mathias Boe.

With the win in their first round match Boe/Mogensen are ready for second round on Thursday at DANISA DENMARK OPEN presented by VICTOR. We look forward to seeing them on court Thursday against a Or Chin Chung/Tang Chun Man from Hong Kong.
