Tuesday night the Chinese mixed double Zhang Nan/Li Yinhui showed why they are no. fifth seed as they won their first match in DANISA DENMARK OPEN presented by VICTOR by defeating the Danish mixed double Christinna Pedersen/Mathias Christiansen 21-19, 21-14.
Christinna Pedersen/Mathias Christiansen looked motivated but a bit nervous as they entered the court, with good reason as they were about to face no. fifth seed in this tournament Zhang Nan/Li Yinhui from China.
Both mixed doubles delivered a very talented performance with a lot of moments of great playing on both halfs of the court which created an entertaining match for the audience to follow.
In the beginning of the match the point score was quite even but from the middle of the first set Zhang Nan/Li Yinhui took the lead and after ten minutes the score was 14-9. In the end of the set the Danish mixed double started to catch up but it was not enough to secure the first set. Zhang Nan/Li Yinhui won the first set by 21-19.
In the second set the two mixed doubles started out quite equal but soon after, Zhang Nan/Li Yinhui left Christinna Pedersen/Mathias Christiansen behind and played a convincing match which ended 21-14.
Eventhough the match was close at some points, Zhang Nan/Li Yinhui thinks that more practice is needed for the Danish mixed-double to get more balanced in their play.
- Mathias Christiansen has got a new partner, which means they need to practice more together, says Zhang Nan/Li Yinhui.
But even though Christinna Pedersen/Mathias Christiansen are a new mixed double, Zhang Nan/Li Yinhui still prepared themselves to face a talented opponent.
- Sometimes we lose and sometimes they lose. Christinna and Mathias is a very good pair, so we were ready for anything, says Zhang Nan/Li Yinhui.
One thing is sure, we and the audience look forward to witness Zhang Nan/Li Yinhui’s next match.
