It’s day one of DANISA DENMARK OPEN presented by VICTOR and some of the world’s biggest stars will be in action today!

We’ve waited an entire year for this day to come and now it’s finally here: the first day of the 2017 DANISA DENMARK OPEN presented by VICTOR! Today we will see the qualification matches in all five categories and the first round in the main draw in mixed doubles.

In mixed doubles, we will get to see some of the world’s biggest stars as, among others, world no. one Zheng Siwei/Chen Qingchen from China step on court facing Danish Mikkel Mikkelsen/Mai Surrow.

Olympic and World Champions Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir from Indonesia, who are the third seed in this tournament, will also be in action today as they’re up against the Finish couple Anton Kaisti/Jenny Nystrom.

Furthermore, the crowd here in Odense will also be having the pleasure of seeing European Champions Chris and Gabrielle Adcock playing their first match of DANISA DENMARK OPEN presented by VICTOR today. 

In fact, one of their opponents is Olympic Champion in women’s doubles Misaki Matsutomo. She has paired up with fellow Japanese Yugo Kobayashi in mixed doubles and it will be most exciting to see if they have the skills and the courage to mess with “The Adcocks”.

Last year’s winners of the mixed doubles here in Odense were Christinna Pedersen/Joachim Fischer. The Danes will not be defending their title together as they are no longer pairing up due to Fischer’s injury, but Christinna Pedersen will have a shot at winning again as she is playing with Mathias Christiansen this year.

It will be the pair’s first ever tournament together and it looks like they’re in for a tough first match. They’re facing the no. five seed Zhang Nan/Li Yinhui from China. Zhang Nan is Olympic Champion in men’s doubles and bronze medallist in mixed doubles from Rio, so the Danes are definitely in for quite a challenge to which they’re looking forward.

- It will be a tough match today. They have a high ranking and I especially know Zhang Nan very well. He has won many big titles so we know his qualities on the court – and hers as well. We have to give everything we’ve got and try to implement some of the things we’ve been practicing for the past three weeks, says Christinna Pedersen, and Mathias Christiansen continues.

It’s important that we put a big smile on our faces and that we bring a lot of energy to the court today. We need to show that we really enjoy playing when we’re out there, says Christiansen.
