It was the day of the finals today and after five exciting and close matches we have now found this year’s champions.

Women’s doubles final was a match between Matsutomo and Takahashi from Japan and Korean Jung and Shin.

The Japanese made a great start and got an 11-2 lead, but then it seemed like Jung and Shin woke up. They made contact at 14-14 and even got a 15-14 lead. From that point the set was close end ended with a Korean 21-19 win.

The Japanese controlled the second set and won 21-11. The third set was close at first, but then the Japanese showed why they’re world no. 1 and Olympic Champions as they won 21-16

- It is our third time to join the Denmark Open, but this is the first time we win so we are very very happy, says Takahashi

- It was a hard match that went back and forth, but we regained the rhythm and that’s why we won, says Matsutomu.

In men’s singles Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk from Thailand kept surprising.

When he came to Denmark nobody really knew who he was and his name was not written in any history books on badminton. Furthermore, he came all alone, without a coach to back him up and advise him during the matches. 

 He took the first set against 6th seeded Son Wan Ho from Korea 21-13, but the second set was a real thriller. On his fourth match point Saensomboonsuk secured his first ever Superseries Premier-win which sent him to his knees in pure happiness, almost crying.

- I am very surprised to win.In this tournament I have stayed focused and fought hard and that has given me confidence. My victory is very important for the people back home. It is my gift for the king, says Saensomboonsuk, who held a photo of the Thai King that passed away recently in his hands during the price ceremony. 

Now everybody knows the name Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk!

The third final of the day was today’s height for the Danish spectators as Joachim Fischer and Christinna Pedersen took on Zheng and Chen from China.

The Danes were simply the best in the first set winning 21-13, but in the second set it got close and dramatic!

The Chinese pair actually had the lead throughout most of the set, but at 20-20 the Danes made contact. The Danish crowd could sense the comeback and with four consecutive points the Danes went from being down 18-20 to winning the title 22-20 which sent the Crowd, and Fischer/Pedersen themselves, to the sky!

It was the fourth time for the two Danes to win Yonex Denmark Open presented by Danisa, but the last time they won was back in 2011.

- We are really happy and satisfied that we managed to get back this title. It’s a special feeling for me and Joachim, says Christinna Pedersen.

The final in men’s double turned out as a real thriller. Olympic silver medallists Goh and Tan from Malaysia faced one of the surprises of the tournament Isara and Phuangphuapet from Thailand. 

The crowd was spellbound by amazing shots and a great fight where the players even returned shots laying down on court.

After more than an hour of play the Malaysian favourites came out victorious with the score 14-21, 22-20, 21-19.

The Yonex Denmark Open presented by Danisa-title is the first Superseries Premier-win for Goh/Tan, and the victory today of course made them very happy.

- We are feeling happy right now. This is our first title and we hope we can carry on.

We played well before the final, not today, but luckily we won today. Maybe we were a little bit nervous, but we made some changes to overcome it, says Goh and Tan.

The women’s singles final was yet another close match. Yamaguchi from Japan faced Tai from Chinese Taipei.

After losing the first set 19-21 Yamaguchi really stepped up and won the next two 21-14, 21-12. When she won the final point her two coaches had to do the celebration for her as she seemed too tired to even raise her arms.

- I am very happy to be able to win the first place and I enjoyed it very much. This win is very very important to me, says Yamaguchi.
