Joachim Fischer and Christinna Pedersen win on home court!

With the crowd as their support Fischer/Pedersen defeated Zheng/Chen 21-13, 22-20 making them the Yonex Denmark Open presented by Danisa 2016 champions!

Fischer and Pedersen are known for their amazing energy on court and today they showed once again why being energetic is so important for them as they won their fourth Yonex Denmark Open-title.

Last time they won was back in 2011 and no Danes have won the tournament since, so the Danish crowd was really on their marks this afternoon in Odense supporting their favourite mixed doubles-pair.

- We are really happy and satisfied that we managed to get back this title. It’s a special feeling for me and Joachim, says Christinna Pedersen.

The Danes came out very strongly and secured the first set convincingly 21-13.

The second set, on the other hand, was thrilling, nerve-wracking and exciting all the way through. The Chinse pair made the best start and actually had the lead up until 20-20 where the Danes made contact.

To reach the 22 point Fischer first screamed a shot out, Pedersen let it fall and just like in the semi-final yesterday Fischer was right. That shout gave the Danes their first match point.

A single match point was all they needed as Fischer smashed the shuttle into the floor and then everything went crazy.

The crowd cheered like never before this week, Pedersen threw her racket up in the air and Fischer fell to the floor in excitement and happiness.

After the match the Danes, of course, were very satisfied with how the match went.

- We wanted to put pressure on them from the start and we succeeded. In the second set they were playing very fast and very strongly and it was very difficult to keep up with their speed – especially from the guy, he was like a tornado on court, but luckily we won in two sets, says Joachim Fischer.

During the match Christinna Pedersens’ partner in women’s double Kamilla Rytter Juhl was cheering for the Danes from the spectators’ seats.

- I take it very nice and easy when it is this close and exciting – that’s no problem, laughs Rytter Juhl with a big smile on her face that might suggest a bit of irony.

Huge congratulations to Joachim Fischer and Christinna Pedersen on winning the title at Yonex Denmark Open presented by Danisa.
