It’s the end of the quarterfinal-day at Yonex Denmark Open presented by Danisa and we have had some surprises today – and some true dramas as well!

The day started with Joachim Fischer and Christinna Pedersen in mixed doubles taking on world no. 1 Ko and Kim.

The Danes came out strong and chocked the Koreans playing at a very high level. The Koreans never recovered from the dansih power-start sending the Danes into the semi-final with 21-13, 21-18 victory.

Carolina Marin have played to tough matched the past days and today was no exception. A thrilling drama took place as she defeated Sun Yu from China 21-19, 16-21, 27-25 after being several match points down.

In women’s doubles Olympic silver and bronze medallists faced each other as Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Christinna Pedersen took on Jung and Shin from Korea. They also played each other at the Olympics where the Danes came out victorious, but today the Koreans took their revenge.

They defeated the home court favourites 21-18, 21-17.

In men’s doubles the crowd had expected a close and entertaining match between Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen and Ivan Sozonov/Vladimir Ivanov. The excitement never came as the Danes turned out to be way too strong for the Russians defeating them 21-14, 21-5.

The singles turned out to be the matches of the day as Lee Chong Wei against Brice Leverdez appeared just as dramatic as Marin vs. Sun Yu.

Lee Chong Wei celebrated his 34th birthday today, but Brice Leverdez was not handling out any presents for the Malaysian superstar.

Leverdez delivered the surprise of the day as he won 21-17, 20-22, 21-19.

After the match Lee Chong Wei told the press that he would like to give a lot of credit to Brice Leverdez who played the match of his life. He is now in his first ever Superseries Premier semi-final!

If he will make it all the way to the finals will be answered tomorrow when the shuttles are flying again in Odense.
