We might not be in Spain, but as Carolina Marin stepped on court today the noise from the crowd suggested that she was playing at home.
The crowd here in Odense loves the Spanish Olympic Champion Carolina Marin. Today they showed that once again as they cheered her through to the semi-final.
Right from the start it was clear that the two players tried to get the mental advantage. When one was serving the other wasn’t ready, and won rallies were celebrated with high screams.
- The key in this match was the mental game. I needed to show her that I wanted to beat her. I know I have to give 100% to beat Sun Yu and I think I did that today, says Carolina Marin.
Carolina Marin made a strong start and played well as her significant screams filled the arena. Sun Yu fought her way back in set just to see Marin reach the 21 points first as the set ended 21-19.

In the second set the Chinese build on her strong finished from first set and took a 21-16 win forcing the match into a deciding set.
For a long time, it looked like the Chinese would turn out victorious in the third set as she had a 14-6 and 16-10 lead, but with the crowd as her support Marin gave her all and made an amazing comeback.
- It was really tough for me today to make a comeback in the game. When I was warming my stomach didn’t feel very good, but I just wanted to fight until the end. It was a really good performance today, but I need to improve a little bit more, says Marin.

It turned out to be a true drama that ended 27-25 in favour of the top seeded Spaniard. At 22-21 in favour of Sun Yu Marin made a lucky roll on the net leaving Sun Yu no chance. As Marin won the final point the crowd went crazy while Marin used her final powers to jump up and down in happiness as she is now through to the semi-final.
