In an extremely energetic, entertaining and well played match the Danes managed to beat the world no. 1 in order to make their way into the semi-finals on home court in Odense

Fischer and Pedersen are known for their great energy on court and for always appealing to the crowd. Today’s match against Ko and Kim from Korea was no exception.

The danes seemed motivated and focused from the first rally and in the first set they were in full control all the way. Once the shuttles were flying they never looked back and after around 20 minutes the scoreboard showed a first set win on 21-13 in the Danes’ favour.

- We were able to play the way we wanted to and on a high level. I don’t think the koreans were ready for the way played. They didn’t expect that we could play like this. I am pleased that we were able to close it off i straight sets, says Fischer after the match.

The second game was a bit more equal and after each won point Fischer and Pedersen almost screamed their hearts out in pure excitement passing on their energy to the crowd.

Cheering screams flew through the air as the Danes approach the victory. At 20-18 the Danes had their first match point. In what seemed like slowmotion the shuttle flew through the air, crossed the baseline and landed on the floor. As the line judge shouted: “Out!” both the crowd and Fischer/Pedersen went crazy and celebrated the victory together.

It was clear that the Danes had a great game plan today and even when it got thight in the second set they had the discipline to stick to it, which eventually gave secured the win.

It is no secret that the Danes think that their preparations for Yonex Denmark Open presented by Danisa haven’t been as good as in the previous years, but still they managed to beat the world no. 1 couple today. A fact they couldn’t really explain themselves.

- I don’t really know how it can be that we haven’t prepared as we wanted to and still are able to beat world no. 1. We came super prepared to the Olympics but that wasn’t enough, but when we reached the final at All England we hadn’t really been practicing that much before that tournament either so that’s just how it is sometimes, says Fischer.

The Danes will be playing their semi-final tomorrow.
