Danish victories and a display of power from Lin Dan gets the audience on their feet

The battle for gold in the men’s single at Denmark Open has officially begun as the world’s no. 1. And the defending champion shows us how it is done.

If you had not noticed; it is badminton time in Odense. At around 6 pm. The Danish mixed double Thomas Laybourn and Kamilla Rytter Juhl started their match on court number 2 while defending champion Jan Ø. Jørgensen started his match a few moments later. For that time the applauds were endless and the Danish fans filled the hall with a good atmosphere.

Laubourn and Rytter Juhl had a hard match and harvested a well deserve cheering when they won their game 21-17 / 21-15

- It was a really tough first round and we were very focused on the match, says Kamilla Rytter Juhl.

- A tough field this year. This pair was tougher than the pair we beat in the final last year, Thomas Layboun agrees.

It is very special to be back.

Jan Ø. Jørgensen who has a lot to live up to after last year’s victory and it was a confident and aggressive player who won the first set 21-16 to the joy of the audience.

The second set started off slow but in a matter of minutes Jan Ø. Jørgensen had the lead with 13-6. The next few minutes did not leave many chances for Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif and the score in the second set was 21-10. Jan Ø says

- It was a great game, the opener is always difficult but I played some good badminton and I am happy with my performance but will do better tomorrow.

Chinese Lin Dan is seeded 2nd and it is believed to be the only real threat against Lee Chong Wei, and it was a determined Lin Dan who won 21-14 / 21-13Lin Dan also had a few words for the atmosphere and the crowd.

-Denmark open is one of my favorite tournaments as I can see the Danish audience being very enthusiastic and I really enjoy the atmosphere here.

After a display of power and skills like the ones we saw tonight on courts 2 and 3 let there be no doubt – the stars are here.
