Chinese blogger promotes Yonex Denmark Open 2011

Communicating is about understanding. Badminton Denmark walks the talk. In the run up for Yonex Denmark Open 2011 Chinese Yu Long works closely with the organization and communicates Danish Badminton to China.

- Badminton in Denmark is no. 1 in Europe and badminton in China is no. 1 in Asia. I realized there is the link between the Danish culture and Chinese culture when it comes to badminton,” says Yu Long, who currently works closely with Badminton Denmark in relation to Yonex Denmark Open 2011 that is staged this week in Denmark. Yu Long is a student from China who is currently studying in Copenhagen completing a bachelor program in Sports Management.

Badminton Denmark is a first mover when it comes to using social media platforms as part of the communication strategy. “It is very common for Badminton Denmark to brand their events and Yonex Denmark Open on Facebook and Youtube in Europe, North America and other places in the world. It is not the same situation in mainland of China. Facebook and Youtube are screened due to the Chinese internet regulation control system,” claims Yu Long.

Chinese social media in chinese
“I have made some research for finding some internet platforms similar to Facebook and Youtube. Two of the most popular and largest Chinese portal websites are: qq.com and sina.com. These two portal websites both providing micro-blogging service which called ‘Weibo’ in Chinese. Sina weibo is hybrid of Twitter and Facebook, it has the largest micro-blogging internet users’ coverage in China. Sina has claimed that it has 140 million registered users. The other one qq.com has the most popular free chatting instant messaging program in mainland China which has 812.3 million users. Qq.com also has micro-blogging service. Youku is the video hosting service and the largest video sharing website in China. It plays almost same role as Youtube in China. Youku’s highest number of unique visitors daily (uv) over 1.12 million,” says Yu Long.

In order to brand Yonex Denmark Open with a multi dimensional way Yu Long has contacted the web editor of qq.com sport channel and they have made him their special correspondent.

“As we all know Google is most used search engine all over the world, but again, it’s not the case in mainland China. Baidu.com is the largest Chinese searching engine in mainland China. And ‘Baidu Knowledge’ is a product of Baidu.com. Whenever the internet users search words ‘2011 Yonex Denmark Open’ in Chinese, all my messages I have put on the web will list on the searching result. In fact, the interview I have made with Viktor Axelsen is no. 1 on the searching result,” explains Yu Long.

Imagine the BWF World Championships in Denmark
The collaboration with Yu Long is part of Badminton Denmark’s communication strategy: “Our outreach program is based upon the fact that we need to navigate in the waters of social media platforms and profiting of the insight knowledge of different cultures’ use of social media and ways of communications. Communicating is understanding the differences within language and platforms – Badminton Denmark walks the talk in relation to Yonex Denmark Open 2011 and also in relation to the Danish bid for the BWF World Championships 2013/2014,” says Trine Bay, media manager, Badminton Denmark.

Together with Sport Event Denmark and the municipality of Odense the sponsor Yonex Co., Ltd. has turned the YONEX Denmark Open Premier into the worlds best badminton tournament with excellent prize money which makes the tournament extra attractive to the best of the world class profiles in badminton.

Badminton Denmark and Sport Event Denmark bid for the individual BWF World Championships 2013/2014, and Yonex supports the Danish bid 100%.
