It’s difficult to make room for all the profiles in the men’s singles field. Experienced players such as Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan are back on the international badminton scene and rising stars are also appearing. The big favourite might be China’s Chen Long but the competition is tough and he must also expect a strong challenge in the Danish men’s singles.

Chen Long, China

Since he won the World Championships in Denmark last year the Chinese player has secured the throne in men’s singles. Since this victory Chen Long has won a lot of superseries tournaments and also the season’s finals in Dubai. In May he was part of the Chinese National team who won the Sudirman Cup and he also reclaimed the title at this August’s individual World Championships. The 26-year-old Chinese player has won Yonex Denmark Open the last two years and in 2011.

Jan Ø. Jørgensen, Denmark

Denmark’s top men’s single’s player is among the best in the world, and when he plays his best he can beat anyone. Jørgensen was injured at the World Championships in Denmark last year, and this affected his game for a while. Since New Year, however, he has been very strong and won the German Open in Marts before reaching the final in both the All England and Indonesia Open, where he lost to Chen Long and Kento Momota respectively. The Danish men’s single also reached the semifinals at the World Championships after winning comfortably against Lin Dan in the quarter final. In 2010 Jan Ø. Jørgensen won the Yonex Denmark Open presented by Danisa and he will surely wish to repeat this success.
