He won the World Junior Championship in 2007 and this year his has won the Philippine Grand Prix tournament and has been runner-up in two ohter Grand Prix tournaments.

Danish national assistent coach Claus Poulsen knows Chen Long’s style of play. He compares him to former world no. 1 Chen Hong: “Long is a very aggressive player, who attacks as soon as he gets the chance. He trusts his own attacking game and tries to hit a lot of winners. He’s an explosive player, who puts heavy pressure on his opponent,” Claus Poulsen said.

The danish coach expects Chen Long to do great in Denmark Open, but he is unsure about his form: “ I think he will be avid for making a good result. He has had some nice wins this season, but it’s a little while ago now, so I’m sure he will be very motivated to do well.”

Wednesday afternoon Chen Long played his first round match against Indonersian Kashyap Parupalli. Long won the first set easily by 21 – 10. In the second set Parupalli was able to put pressure on Long until halfway into the set. The Chinese starlet finished off the game in style by winning 21 – 13. In tomorrow’s second round he is going to face Kenichi Tago of Japan.
