It is the story of David and Goliath. The favourite and the dark horse. Wang Yihan and Xin Liu.

As one of the biggest profiles in the ladies’ singles category, Wang Yihan is the top favourite to win Denmark Open.

In today’s semifinal she was up against Bulgarian Petcha Nedelcheva. And even though the Bulgarian has been playing at a high level during the tournament, beating top player Yao Yie in the quarterfinal, Wang Yihan was too strong. In straight sets the former All England champion from 2009 beat Nedelcheva 21-8 21-10.

And Wang Yihan is ready for tomorrow even though she would have liked to face home crowd favourite Tine Baun.

-I  think is was a pity, that I could not meet Tine in the final. But still, I will be sure to prepare well to be able to play my best, Wang Yihan says.

But even if Wang Yihan is the top-seeded profile at Denmark Open, her opponent in tomorrow’s final Xin Liu has proved that China has lots of talented ladies’ singles to draw from. She has impressed everyone by making it all the way through the qualification and into her first Super Series final. On her last stop towards the final she beat Salajkit Ponsana, who sent Tine Baun out of Denmark Open earlier this week. In two close sets she made sure that the Denmark Open title will definitely be handed to a Chinese girl this year.
