Christinna Pedersen/Joachim Fischer today faced Devin Lehardi Fitriawan/Lita Nurlita from Indonesia. Both couple were ready from the beginning. It started out with lots of great rallies and first set was a close-run. Pedersen/Fischer managed to pull it through 21-19 and amazed the big Danish crowd here at Odense Sports Park.
The crowd was about to see even more impressive badminton. Pedersen/Fisher started strong in the second set. Fischer did the smashing and Christina was playing well at the net. They managed to get a bigger lead. It was less exciting in the second set because the Danes were superior. They won the second set 21-12 and are through to the semis.
Wonderful crowd Almost two thousand people saw Pedersen/Fischer defeat the Indonesians and they were cheering for the Danes all the time. “It was fantastic to have such a big crowd. It’s a great atmosphere to play in and it helped us through,” said Christinna Pedersen after the match.
Polish surprise The Danes are facing Nadiezda Kosticzyk/Robert Mateusiak from Poland in the semi-finals. The polish couple is quite a surprise here at Denmark Open. They defeated the fifth seed Vita Marissa/H. Gunawan yesterday and today they were superior against their competitors Gabrielle White/Chris Adcock from England. They won the match 21-9 21-7. The Danes are favourites but you never know if the polish couple can cause yet another surprise.
Top seed out The top seed Lilyana Natsir/Nova Widianto from Indonesia was up against Yawen Zhang/Jiaming Tao from China. Today the Chinese couple was strongest. They won the match 21-10 17-21 21-13 and is through to the semi finals. Tomorrow they are facing Donna Kellogg/Anthony Clark from England.
