The first four quarterfinalist in the men’s singles category where to be found in this afternoon’s matches. Yun Hu from Hong Kong was up against qualifier Daren Liew from Malaysia. In the qualification round Liew showed great promise beating one of Chinas new talents Wang Zhengming but today he was overpowered by Hu, who won the match 21-12 21-15. -I have played against him before, and was preparing for a hard match. But I was confident that I would win, Yu Hu says. Yun Hu was seeded to meet Peter Gade in the quarterfinal, but in the absence of the top seeded Dane, he will either play Polish Wacha or Wong from Hong Kong. And after today’s performance Yun Hu stand a good chance of making it to the semifinal. However, he is hesitant to describe himself as the favourite -There are always expectations, but I will have to see tomorrow how the match goes. Zwiebler played three sets And more Asian players followed Hu into the quarterfinals. Kestutis Navickas from Lithuania came close to pushing Chinese Du Pengyu into three sets, but lost the second set narrowly. The Lithuanian was clearly dissapointed as he kneeled to the floor after the defeat after it became clear that the Chinese player would be the one playing in tomorrow’s quarterfinal. Kenichi Tago from Japan, who is seeded five, beat fellow Japanese player Sho Sasaki and thereby secured himself a spot in the quarterfinals, where he might meet former Olympian champion Taufik Hidayat, should he win his match later today. Another favourite found himself in a bit of trouble this morning, as German Marc Zwiebler played three sets against Anand Pawar from India. But in the third set the German was able to close the match 21-14 and fulfill his seeding for the quarter final. Tomorrow Zwiebler will face a Danish opponent. Which one, will be determined later today as Jan Ø. Jørgensen and Viktor Axelsen are set to play an interesting match against each other which will decide, who gets to play against Zwiebler in the quarterfinal.
