First Viktor Axelsen created a stir in the Odense Sports Park when he went through the men’s singles. And just an hour later another Danish star in the making caused a lot of clapping and cheering in the hall. The local talent Camilla Martens became the second young Odense-player to make it into the main tournament.
In her final qualification match she defeated Simone Prutsch from Austria. The Dane had to fight her way through two close before she could stretch her arms in victory before the cheering crowd.

Tomorrow Martens will face a real challenge as Dutch player Yao Yie – who is seeded five - awaits in the first round of the main tournament.

Chinese ladies were invincible

Also the Chinese badminton fans have reason to be satisfied with today’s results since half of the qualifying players in the ladies’ singles category are  chinese. Along with top seeded.

Former world champion Zhu Lin practically waltzed through today’s qualification,  winning 21-7 21-10 in her second round against Spela Sylvester from Slovenia. As did the other Chinese profile in the qualification tournament Xiu Lin who defeated Ying Suet Tse from Hong Kong 21-11 21-12.

In the main tournament the two Chinese girls might even play each other. If they both win their first match in tomorrows round, they will then stand face to face in an all Chinese second round.
