Christinna Pedersen and Joachim Fischer had a close match against a Croatian couple in yesterday’s first round and today the defending champions were hard pressed once again against Hirata and Fujii from Japan. Joachim Fischer has just come back from an injury and the couple are on their way back after having played the last few Super Series tournaments. But after having won the first set 21-13 in today’s match Fischer experienced trouble with his knee and had to have medical consultation on court. The second set was won by the Japanese 21-16. However, the two Danes delivered a great fight and won the third set narrowly 21-19. After the match the defending champions where clearly relieved. -We have played two close matches and we have not been playing our best. But we fight a lot and it was enough both today and yesterday. In the quarterfinals they face Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongkam, who are seeded to reach the semifinals. The Danes, who are seeded five, said that they would have to take their game to the next level in order to beat the thai couple. German and Thai couples through Today’s round of mixed doubles was a great success for Thailand. Besides from favourites Sudket and Saralee, another thai couple, Songphon and Kunchala, are ready for the quarterfinals as well. Germany will also be represented tomorrow in the mixed category. Michael Fuchs and Birgit Overzier, who are seeded 7, beat a Japanese couple in straight sets and are the fourth quarterfinalists from this morning’s matches. After the game they were satisfied with their performance and happy about playing in Denmark Open, and for Michael Fuchs it was extra special. -I have never been in a Super Series quarterfinal before, so I am very happy, he said. Tomorrow the Germans might have a real challenge as they can risk playing against the second-seeded Indonesian couple Gunawan and Marissa if they win their second round later today.
