The first men’s singles have been played in the Denmark Open qualification. And to the audience’s delight young local favourite Viktor Axelsen still remains after winning his first match against Valeryi Atrashchenkov.The hall, which is just half full at this stage of the tournament, cheered and clapped along towards the end of the match as it became clear that their favourite only needs one more today in order to play in tomorrow’s main tournament. Another Danish player who still has a shot at the main tournament is Emil Vind as he too won his first match. Both Axelsen and Vind were originally on the waiting list for the qualification tournament and not certain to be participating at all but are now close to entering the main tournament. Danish player Peter Mikkelsen came close to shaking the Chinese player in the first set, but was defeated 21-18 21-8.
