- “I feel like this was my final breakthrough. I feel great,” said the new star in Danish badminton.

The long expected match between Peter Gade and Jan Ø. Jørgensen was played tonight in a crowded Odense Idrætshal. In the first set it looked like the match wasn’t going to live up to the huge expectations, as Gade seemed too strong for his opponent. But Jørgensen stepped up and proved otherwise.

World no. 3 Peter Gade started out very well quickly taking the lead 5 – 1 against his young compatriot. Halfway through the set Gade led 11 – 3 and he kept dominating for the rest of the first set, which he easily won by 21 – 7.

In the second set Jan Ø. Jørgensen, who is ranked 12th in the world, got a far better start. He was in front by 11 – 8 midway through the set. Gade fought back well, but Jan Ø. Jørgensen managed to hold on to his lead and win the second set by 21 – 17.

Again in the third set the seventh seed Jørgensen started well, as he took a 5 – 1 lead. However, top seed Gade made his way back into the game. The players switched sides at 11 - 10 in Jørgensen’s favour. Despite of the huge pressure young Jørgensen kept his cool throughout the rest of the game and he just played better and better. In the end of the set he extended his lead to four points and never looked back. He won the third and descisive set 21 – 16 completing a great surprise.
