The expectations for the Danish constellation Mads Conrad/Jonas Rasmussen were high before their second round match in Denmark Open, where German couple Oliver Roth and Michael Fuchs awaited them. But the Germans did not seem impressed by standing face to face with former world champion Rasmussen. And even though Michael Fuchs started off by tripping and falling into a sponsor decoration making the crowd laugh, the Germans did mean business. Later there was not much to laugh about for the home crowd, as the two Germans won the first set 23-21. To make matters worse Jonas Rasmussen got a small injury in his leg in the middle of the first set as well. In the second the Germans got a good start and ended up winning 21-16 And it was a clearly dissapointed Danish couple that left the court after the defeat. -A lot of things went wrong. I did not feel comfortable on court and we had a really bad day. I don’t know what happened, I am just dissapointed, Mads Conrad said after the match. That means that Michael Fuchs will be playing in both the men’s doubles quarterfinal as well as the mixed doubles along with Birgit Overzier. In men’s doubles he will face former Olympian champions Hendra Setiawan and Markis Kido. Adcock/Ellis challenged Indonesian favourites But Setiawan and Kido did not have an easy way to the quarterfinal. Today they were up against the English couple Chris Adcock and Andrew Ellis, who yesterday were confident when it came to playing the Indonesians. And the Brits did put up a great fight in the second round. In the first set Adcock and Ellis had game point against the Indonesian but failed to close the set losing narrowly 25-23. The second was close as well up till the end, where the Indonesians stepped up and took it home 21-18. Watch live stream, click here |
