To most people Jan’s win was a big surprise, but Steen Pedersen was not that surprised by the result. “ I won’t say that I expected Jan to win today – especially not after the first set - but it’s not a chok to me. He already beat him once and at some point it was bound to happen again,” he said.

Gade cruised through the first, but in the second and third Jan Ø. Jørgensen got the upper hand. He played a brilliant match against the tournament favourite and world no. 3.
“Jan always takes his chances and today he played a very good second and third set taking control and putting pressure on Peter Gade with his pacy style,” Steen Pedersen added.

The former Danish national coach is sure that this victory is extremely important for Jørgensen.
“He smells blood. This win proves that he is doing the right things and it will definetely give him a confidence boost. He will be extra motivated to train hard, becaused he has seen how it pays off.”

Steen Pedersen sees a bright future for the talented Jørgensen, but it still requires a lot of hard work.
“If he stays focused on learning, he can go all the way to top,” he said.

According to Steen Pedersen Jan’s win will not only have a positive influence on Jan himself, but also for Danish Men’s Singles in generel.
“This will bring motivation to all of the Danish men’s singles, even Peter Gade. I’m sure that Peter is keen on ending his career as Denmark’s no. 1 and tonight he saw that he is not the only one aiming for that spot.”

Assisting national coach, Lars Uhre, also comments on Jan's great victory today. See the interview, click here
