16 hopeful pairs started of this morning playing to get into the second round of the mixed doubles tournaments.
And even though it was early morning the favorites were awake and gave nothing away to their opponents. Despite the time on the clock there was no lack by the Indonesians. Vita Marissa and Hendra Gunawan are seeded two in this tournament and they had an easy day this Wednesday. They defeated world’s no. 25 Wiratama and Tse in only 20 minutes.
Earlier this season Gunawan and Marissa have had some trouble motivating in the first rounds – at World’s in Paris needed three sets to beat a South African couple, but the seem to be fit for this Denmark Open. Another seeded pair is ready for the second round: Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork played well and concentrated beating their Polish challengers. The Englishmen have just returned from the Commonwealth Games which makes their expectations a bit low for this tournament. Two victories for the Danes. In the opening matches there were two Danish pairs in action and both of them could cheer afterwards. Mikkel Delbo Larsen and Mie Schjøtt-Kristensen seemed very confident and did not make any kind of unforced errors.
Therefore they could celebrate a huge win against Atrashchenkov and Prus by winning 21-5 in second game. In the first game they needed a bit time to adjust, but won without any trouble 21-16. Delbo/Schjøtt will now face either Mateusiak/Zieba or Setiawan/Russkikh.
Also Mads Kolding and Julie Houmann came out on top after their first match against Wong and Chau from Hong Kong. They pulled the third game 21-17 and the Danes can look forward to an interesting meeting in the second round where they will play Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork.
